Designer/founder : Sophie MéchalyAtmosphere: the designer was inspired by nineties cult films most notably ‘Sailor&Lula’, directed by David Lynch and ‘Natural Born Killers’ directed by Oliver Stone. To describe the new summer wardrobe, a wise girl dares to become an adult, free, during her road trip with a bad boy….Collection: Dresses all in white cotton, or embroidered with flowers, frilled shorts worn with girly blouses. We see short t-shirts worn with loose trousers, with some printed with patterns of Palm Springs and American motels. The colours are also more daring, with deep raspberry, blue or orange. The brocade suits, not forgetting short dungarees, will be strong pieces for the season, both for the men as well as the women. To note: The pyjama ensemble + the night dress worn under a jewel embroidered denim jacket or a leather jackets printed with coloured flowers. Interview with Sophie Méchaly:The new collection is inspired by iconic films from the era of my twenties in the nineties, such as ‘natural born killer’ by Olivier Stoner and ‘Wild at Heart’by David Lynch. Actually, it’s the story of a West Coast American, who’s a bit puritan, clean, well raised, from a good family, very cute on all levels. Who actually falls in love with a bad boy but really, Nicholas Cage, I was crazy about him. She gets rid of all her clothes which are typically young girl: floral, innocent, white, Claudine collars, small satin dresses etc.. that are obviously in the collection, the on her road trip, she completely changes her look: she dresses herself in coloured trousers, super short tops, with clearly a more provocative side. So it’s that contrast which makes up the Paul & Joe woman for Spring/Summer 2018. She becomes a woman: she goes from young girl to women, to a young woman, in love, independent, crazy about her boyfriend, with a seductive side that she’s never had before.
